We are pleased to add this new feature to our "Beyond the Vows" repertoire of after-the-wedding services. It is proving to be extremely popular among couples who opt to have a non-religious ceremony marking the naming of the newest addition to their family.
Many people think of the Baby Naming Ceremony as a civil baptism, in which the baby's presence in the family and in the world is celebrated - along with good wishes for his or her future life and contributions to humanity. The ceremony officially names the child in the presence of family and friends, and includes a series of questions for the parents, the grandparents (if present), and the family's circle of friends. They are all asked to bring up the baby in love and respect, instilling him/her with confidence and tolerance, and emphasizing their various roles in the baby's emotional and intellectual growth. The parents are also asked to renew their wedding vows in the presence of their child. Additionally, a few poems and readings are interspersed throughout the ceremony.
The Baby Naming Ceremony can be performed in just about any location used for weddings, and has proven to be very popular at the Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon, but it is especially suited for At-Home or In-Suite celebrations.
Recognizing the reality of today's world in which many couples already have a baby at the time of their wedding, the Baby Naming Ceremony can even be incorporated into the wedding ceremony or celebrated separately afterwards.
